Pastor Philemon Gwelikporluhson
My name is Philemon Gwelikporluhson and I serve in Liberia as a missionary pastor. For over twelve years, I have been involved with and committed to planting churches in both the main cities of Liberia and the interior.
I was born in Kponyea, a little village near Duaita where Baptist-Mid Missions had a mission station. This village is 27 miles away from Gbarnga which is the capital city of Bong county located in north-central Liberia close to the border of the country of Guinea.
My father was a polygamist and never knew the Lord. My mother was a true believer when my father met her at the age of twelve. She lived with my father until she married him at 18. As head of the home, he was involved with the things of the world yet conscious of a God somewhere.
At fourteen, I came to know the Lord as Savior. This took place after my mother took me to her home village of Duaita. From missionary Karl W. Luyben, I first heard the gospel message preached. Three years after I placed my faith in Jesus Christ, I made a commitment to minister the gospel and to spread the good news to as many lost souls in the world as He would permit me to reach. To the praise of God I have remembered and kept my commitment. I am thankful to the Almighty God that He permits me to serve Him as a minister.
The Lord has been very gracious to my family and I. We are grateful to Him for protection through the difficult times in our country. 2Timothy 2:2 “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
This verse has helped me greatly as I minister God’s word to the unreached. It has been my primary focus in ministry. As a steward of the spiritual treasure God has giving me, I must guard this deposit and invest it in the lives of others who in turn are to share the good tidings with the next generation of believers. This is why I strive to serve as a good soldier of Jesus Christ and to prepare for any hardships my Lord may have for me to endure. We seek to avoid worldly entanglements in order to glorify God through reaching others with the good news of Christ.
My wife Dylin and I have been blessed with six girls: Leona (18) Lorina (15) Justina and Awina (13) Diana (10) and Irena (6). We praise God that they work and serve with us as a family in the ministry.
